SAFETY AND SECURITY
Campus and center safety is everyone's concern -- and responsibility. The IEL encourages its students, faculty and staff to learn as much as possible about personal safety and campus emergency procedures.
In Spokane, the Institute for Extended Learning shares campus security services with Spokane Falls Community College. Outlying IEL sites use local public safety agencies.
IF YOU BELIEVE YOU SEE AN EMERGENCY AT YOUR CENTER, DIAL 911, THEN CAMPUS SECURITY.

Emergency communication
If winter weather conditions – or other circumstances -- have you wondering about the status of operations at the IEL, you’ve got options for getting updates.
Here are your options:
Operations Hotline
Dial (509) 533-3303 to reach the Community Colleges of Spokane Operations Hotline. If CCS operations are affected by severe weather, or any other type of emergency, the hotline is updated, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Note: It’s a looping message, so there may be a delay as calls are answered in the order they’re received.
CCS Operations Update (CCS web site)
Log on to
www.ccs.spokane.edu
In the event of an emergency, updates on CCS operations will be posted to CCS web site home page as they become available. These messages also will be relayed to web sites managed by SCC, SFCC and the IEL.
CCS Alerts (E-mail and text messaging)
This e-mail and text message system is available to CCS students, faculty and staff only and by subscription. Once signed up, participants receive e-mail and/or text messages regarding CCS emergency operations as they are generated. If you are a CCS student, instructor or staff person and would like to subscribe, click on the CCS Alerts promo on the CCS website or your college/IEL site and follow the prompts.
Note: A CCS SID and PIN number are required.
Local media
If possible, CCS also informs local news media about weather- related school -- and other --closures and delays. This includes our three primary television stations (KREM-TV Channel 2, KXLY-TV Channel 4 and KHQ-TV Channel 6), plus radio stations KXLY-AM 920, KGA-AM 1510, KDRK-FM 93.7, and KPBX-FM 91.1.
